MBO shareholder O’Connor Named “Lawyer of the Year” for Second Time

Best Lawyers last recognized Mr. O’Connor as “Lawyer of the Year” in 2018.  Best Lawyers has selected Mr. O’Connor to its “Best Lawyers in America” list every year since 2016.

Mr. O’Connor, a shareholder with Matis Baum O’Connor since 1994, has also been selected as a “Super Lawyer” in every year from 2011-20. In 2018, Super Lawyers Magazine selected Mr. O’Connor as a “Top 50” attorney in Pittsburgh. He focuses his practice on the defense of physicians, hospitals, and nursing homes in the defense of medical malpractice cases. He also represents physicians in licensing matters before the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Mr. O’Connor has particular expertise in the defense of ophthalmologists, optometrists orthopedic surgeons, general surgeons, ENT physicians, medical oncologists, and internists. Additionally, a portion of his practice is devoted to defending businesses in products liability matters, including elevator accidents and power line accidents. Mr. O’Connor has tried over 50 jury trials in counties across Western Pennsylvania and in the federal courts of the Western District and Middle District of Pennsylvania. He has represented countless defendants in mediations and arbitrations in healthcare-related litigation.

Mr. O’Connor is a Fellow in the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and has served as an Adjunct Professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is a frequent lecturer to physician groups, as well as the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.  Mr. O’Connor served for two decades as President of Christian Housing, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to providing housing to the elderly poor.  He is also a former president of the Pittsburgh St. Thomas More Society.  View Mr. O’Connor’s full bio here.
