Ms. Neal is engaged in civil litigation with an emphasis on medical malpractice defense, health care law and insurance defense. She also defends health care professionals in Civil Rights actions initiated by inmates housed in the State Correctional Institutes throughout Pennsylvania. Ms. Neal also represents physicians and other healthcare professionals in administrative matters involving professional licensing.
Prior to joining Baum O’Connor Cullen Chmiel, Cassidy was a Law Clerk for the Honorable Judith K. Fitzgerald of the United States Bankruptcy Court where she performed legal research, drafted opinions, orders and memoranda. Prior to her judicial clerkship, she worked as a law clerk for a solo practitioner.
Ms. Neal was chosen as a Teaching Assistant for the Legal Research and Writing Program at Duquesne University School of Law. In this capacity, she strengthened her research and writing abilities while assisting multiple professors with their classes and working closely with students to improve their skills in research, organization, and drafting memoranda and briefs. While at Duquesne Law School, Ms. Neal was a member of the Trial Team and competed on four occasions. In the 2011 National Trial Competition, her team was awarded Regional Finalist. In the 2010 National Trial Competition, her team was awarded Regional Champion and National Quarter Finalist. Ms. Neal received the CALI Excellence for Future Award – Constitutional Law and Estates and Trust. She also received the Katie Elisabeth Westbrook Award, Order of the Barristers Award, and The Shalom Moot Court Award.
Results
Acted as second chair during a Medical malpractice case involving the death of a 51-year-old woman with gastric cancer. The patient’s family claimed the defendants failed to order the appropriate test to diagnose the patient’s gastric cancer despite her symptoms. After an eight-day jury trial in Allegheny County, the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict.
